A Man in The Light

This week I want to talk about Tim Tebow, an NFL superstar quarterback to many but now trying to keep his faith and earn a spot on the roster with the Philadelphia Eagles. People have recently been fascinated with Tebow as he sets his eyes on returning to the NFL. He hasn't played in the NFL since 2012, yet the Eagles' public relations department counted 105 media members in attendance for Tebow's first press conference on May 28. That total is comparable to the media turnout for a playoff game. Why are so many people interested in this Tim? That question has a lot to do with the way he lives his life off the field. Tim is currently 27 years old, a son of Baptist missionaries, and has done a lot in his life in the area of philanthropy. So far Tim has set up the Tim Tebow Foundation that has recently opened up the CURE Hospital in the Philippines healing Filipino children with deformities that under poverty stricken circumstances can not afford to receive the care they need. "It was awesome," Tebow said about the opening. "I would've been there, but I got the call to come to [Eagles' spring workouts]. I'll be back there soon. It also really puts things into perspective about what really matters. You know, we love playing this game. I love playing this game. I put so much into it. Ultimately, when you're able to keep things into perspective of what really matters, it really does give you a lot more peace in what you're doing. "It's something I want to do the rest of my life." Tebow is a man who understands the roller coasters of life, having been away from the game he loves a few years; but he also understands how football has helped him to lend a helping hand to those who need it most. Tebow also established "Timmy's Playroom" in four children's hospitals in Florida. Each playroom is customized with a football field floor, football chairs, custom wall graphics, a helmet-shaped table for arts and crafts, specially built lockers, a Bible verse banner and a Jumbotron entertainment center. It is also stocked with latest video games, DVDs and electronics. The foundation also grants children with a life-threatening illness a "wish" that involves meeting Tebow. As you can see, these are just a few ways Tim is using his football abilities to make a difference in other peoples lives. As Tim continues to use football as a way to make this world a better place while showing the love of Christ through his Christian beliefs, we get a chance to see how his teammates feel about the football superstar..."He’s a household name,” Eagles wideout and college teammate Riley Cooper said of Tim Tebow. “Everybody knows who he is. He deals with it so well – the little kids to adults screaming his name wherever he goes. He deals with it maturely, and he always goes out of his way for other people.” Great Job Tim Tebow, and keep up the good work.

Focus On Winning

Taking a peak into the arena of sports fans cannot help but notice how a Kobe Bryant, Michael Jordan, Joe Montana, or a Tiger Woods achieved unparraleled success in their own right. At the end of a game lets face it, there's only one winner. So if a game is decided between winning & losing, why is it that these guys (to name a few) win? Why do they have uncommon success? Many can argue that some are lucky, while others are not. As I would agree, timing is everything, and if we had a time machine the movie "Back to the Future" would be a reality. I think it is safe to say that not everyone is born of the same talent. Speaking solely on professional sports, what seperates the unlucky atheletes from the lucky one's that seem to win night in and night out? Let's hear what Michael Jordan has to say about success. "I missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I have lost almost 300 games. On 26 occasions I have been entrusted to take the game's winning shot...and I missed...and I have failed over and over again in my life. And this is why...I succeed."
